About

Hi! Thanks for visiting my page. My name is Sammi, and I am a Nutrition PhD student exploring the intersections between art and science via painting and fiber arts. Most of my art is inspired by nature, foods, and drinks, but I'm also inspired in general by vibrant, colorful things around me. I strongly believe that everyone, especially scientists, should engage in creative practices to decompress and open their minds to make new connections they may otherwise have missed.

I am currently studying the history of home economics on my college campus. Home economists, historically, were trained in art and design, even if they ultimately went on to focus on nutrition and dietetics. I believe we can learn a lot from the home economists of yesteryear, if we only take the time to listen. I am also proud to be following in the footsteps of other scientist-artists, including Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer and Dr. Joy Buolamwini. I hope that my work sparks feelings of oneness with nature, reminds you that food carries no morality, and encourages you to be creative in whatever way feels most resonant to you.
